Vietnam has revolutionized its tourism entry rules by extending eVisa validity to 90 days with multiple entries. Discover the updated rules, eligibility, and the step-by-step application process.
In a major boost to international tourism and digital nomadism, the Vietnamese government enacted sweeping reforms to its eVisa program in August 2023. The most transformative change was extending the maximum allowable stay from a mere 30 days to a generous 90 days, opening the country up for extended exploration without complex visa runs.
The New 90-Day eVisa Framework
Originally, the
Vietnam eVisa was highly restrictive—valid for just 30 days and strictly single-entry. The new framework allows eligible travelers to apply for either a single-entry or multiple-entry visa, both valid for up to 90 continuous days. Furthermore, the government expanded full eVisa eligibility to citizens of all countries and territories worldwide.
Another critical update is port flexibility. Travelers are no longer rigidly bound to the exact entry port specified on their application; the approved eVisa generally allows entry through any of the 42 recognized international borders (including air, land, and sea ports).
Essential Application Requirements
To successfully secure the 90-day eVisa, applicants must prepare:
- A passport valid for at least 6 months beyond the intended date of entry, containing at least two blank pages.
- A high-quality digital scan of the passport's biographical data page (must be perfectly legible with no cropped edges or glare).
- A digital passport-style portrait photo looking directly at the camera without glasses.
- Intended dates of entry and exit, alongside the address of your primary accommodation in Vietnam.
Important Validity Nuances
It is crucial to understand that the 90-day validity clock begins ticking on the exact "valid from" date you specify in your application—not the date you physically cross the border into Vietnam. If you delay your arrival by a week, you lose a week of your 90-day allowance.
